California officials fiercely denounced remarks made by President Donald Trump as dangerous on Monday after he appeared to suggest that Iran could take out major cities like Los Angeles or San Diego.
Speaking at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, ahead of the midterm elections, President Donald Trump claimed that the consequences of the war with Iran were a small price to pay for keeping the world and the country safe, adding that Iran could potentially target an American city.
"Let, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego," President Donald Trump stated during the rally, prompting immediate backlash from leaders in California. He further described the war as a very small price to pay that would conclude soon.
Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom labeled the president deranged and dangerous, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass warned that the comments could compromise local safety. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria echoed these sentiments, asserting that the city is not collateral damage or expendable.
Republican congressional candidate Jim Desmond also criticized the statements, stating that no American city is expendable. Meanwhile, CNN reached out to the White House for clarification, and the conflict continues past its initial timeline.
