Teachers continue to hold an essential role in schools despite the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, according to Minister of Education Sarah Al Amiri. Speaking at the Education First Forum in Abu Dhabi, Ms Al Amiri emphasized that while AI will serve purposeful functions, human interaction cannot be replaced.

“Technology and artificial intelligence are tools we employ consciously, ensuring they do not come at the expense of independent thought or human interaction,” Ms Al Amiri stated. She further stressed that no educational transformation can occur without highly capable educators who guide student development, discover talents, and instill core values.

Academic leaders at the event also discussed how AI is being integrated into the future of learning. Prof Ahmed Ali Alraeesi, vice chancellor of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), noted that the institution has introduced a compulsory AI course for all graduating students and refined academic programs to meet modern job market demands.

Similarly, Prof David Pedder, dean of Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE), highlighted a humancentric approach to technology, using AI as a tool for personalized feedback and lesson planning rather than a replacement for teachers. During the forum, Prof Pedder also announced the Nama'a initiative, designed to involve families, policymakers, and the wider community in addressing complex educational challenges.
