Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has donated blood to officially launch the kingdom’s annual national donation campaign, according to reports from Saudi state media. The initiative is designed to encourage regular voluntary blood donation, raise public awareness about its critical role, and secure stable supplies of blood and blood products for patients dealing with cancer, blood disorders, and emergency medical conditions, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Data from the news agency indicates that more than 900,000 people donated blood in Saudi Arabia in 2025 as part of the ongoing national effort to boost voluntary contributions and sustain blood reserves. Last year's campaign, which was also initiated by Prince Mohammed, successfully quadrupled the donor count to over 65,000—marking a historic high for Saudi blood banks.
Authorities noted that all donations during the previous campaign were entirely voluntary, with over 85 per cent of participants being first-time donors. The collected blood aided more than 63,000 patients, while additional platelet and plasma contributions each assisted approximately 10,000 individuals, the SPA stated.
