Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company plans to maintain an annual investment pace of $39 billion, with a strategic focus on expanding its presence in Asia, according to its chief financial officer.

Speaking at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore on Wednesday, Carlos Obeid stated, “Last year, we invested about $39 billion, which is roughly 10 per cent of our portfolio, and our aim is to continue doing that through all cycles. Every year, we want to deploy that same amount.” He added that Asia will remain crucial as the fund continues to boost its global investments, specifically targeting China, South Korea, India, and Japan to ramp up regional exposure.

“We’ve been trying diligently over the last few years to increase our exposure to Asia,” Mr. Obeid noted, explaining that the portfolio's share invested in the region has grown from 10 per cent to about 13 per cent over the past three years. Key sectors targeted for growth include the energy transition, widespread technology adoption, the reconfiguration of global supply chains, and evolving consumer trends.

Aligning with government objectives, Mubadala seeks to generate robust returns while integrating the local economy globally through strategic partnerships with top-tier private equity firms. The sovereign investor manages a vast portfolio spanning six continents, recently reporting a 17 per cent annual increase in assets to $385 billion. Recent moves include a notable $1 billion investment in Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee alongside Centurium Capital, alongside existing investments in India such as Reliance Industries telecom arm Reliance Jio and holdings via Investcorp.
