Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom emphasized on Friday, October 9, 2026, the urgent need to continuously upgrade Egypt’s skills development system to equip the national workforce for future employment amid rapid shifts in the global economy.

He pointed out that the accelerating adoption of artificial intelligence and digital technologies is generating new avenues in the labor market while simultaneously raising the demand for specialized competencies. Rostom made these statements during a high-level meeting with Firas Abu Hamza, LinkedIn’s head of government affairs for the Middle East and North Africa, to explore strategies for enhancing collaboration in forecasting labor market demands and utilizing big data to pinpoint the most sought-after skills.

The talks centered on aligning Egypt's human capital development strategies with ongoing global economic and technological shifts. Rostom highlighted the significance of channeling training and skills development initiatives toward economic sectors that hold the highest potential for generating quality, sustainable jobs.

“This would help bridge the gap between job seekers’ capabilities and employers’ actual needs, strengthen professional competencies and enhance the international competitiveness of Egyptian talent,” he stated.

The discussion also explored methods to integrate LinkedIn’s robust databases and advanced analytics with Egypt’s national data and statistics to formulate a comprehensive map of skills gaps and pinpoint in-demand specializations. This initiative aims to equip policymakers with an effective tool to aid in strategic workforce planning.

On his part, Firas Abu Hamza noted that Egypt represents a key market for LinkedIn, boasting approximately 14 million users comprising professionals, youth, and enterprises. He affirmed the company's readiness to leverage its analytical expertise to back the ministry’s initiatives in comprehending employment trends and designating priority sectors, ultimately fostering a versatile labor market capable of navigating future challenges and opportunities.
