President Sheikh Mohamed has issued an order to rename Al Ain International Airport to Tahnoun International Airport, with the change taking effect immediately.

This renaming honors the decades of service provided to the country by the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, who served as the Ruler's Representative of the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from the nation's founding until his passing in 2024.

Located about 18km from the oasis city of Al Ain, Tahnoun International Airport is the second international airport in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. According to Abu Dhabi Airports, the facility currently accommodates scheduled flights for two airlines and handles over 100,000 passengers each year.

Data from the flight tracking website FlightRadar24 indicates current scheduled services include Pakistan International Airlines flight PK144 from Islamabad and Air India Express flight IX336 from Kozhikode.

This update follows a similar change made two years ago, when Abu Dhabi's primary international airport was renamed Zayed International Airport in tribute to the UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
