Aprilia Racing rider Marco Bezzecchi secured a brilliant victory at the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix held at the Mandalika International Circuit, while Jorge Martin claimed a crucial third-place finish to reclaim the top spot in the overall world championship standings.

Riding for Aprilia, the Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi made his decisive move past pole-sitter Raul Fernandez during the final third of the race on Sunday in sweltering conditions. Spain’s Raul Fernandez finished in second place, with his compatriot Jorge Martin taking third, also aboard Aprilia machines. Meanwhile, Ducati’s reigning seven-time world champion Marc Marquez crossed the line in sixth position.

This outcome allowed Jorge Martin to wrest the championship lead back from Marc Marquez by a margin of two points, with just five race weekends remaining in the season. Jorge Martin currently leads the standings with 355 points, closely followed by Marc Marquez with 353 points. Marco Bezzecchi remains a contender in the title race, sitting firmly in third place with 309 points.

“It’s amazing, I’m very, very happy,” expressed Marco Bezzecchi, whose previous race win came back in May. “It was a nice battle with Raul and I think me and all my team deserve a result like this. They have been through tough times with me.”

Jorge Martin, who heads to Australia in a fortnight holding a very narrow lead, stated that he gave his absolute best during the race. “I did the maximum,” said Jorge Martin, who started on the second row of the grid alongside his title rival Marc Marquez. “I did my best. At the start I lost a lot of positions but tried to be calm and was overtaking riders step by step. We are still in the fight and still in the lead,” he added.

Raul Fernandez, who was forced to improvise his braking technique after fracturing two fingers during Saturday's sprint, made a clean start from his first-ever pole position. Earlier in the weekend, Raul Fernandez and Marco Bezzecchi had clashed and crashed out of the sprint race, which was won by Marc Marquez to temporarily seize the championship lead.

As the Grand Prix progressed past the opening third of the 27 laps, Raul Fernandez managed to hold off Marco Bezzecchi despite his hand injury. Jorge Martin ran comfortably in third position, while Marc Marquez lingered in fifth without mounting a serious challenge. Raul Fernandez successfully withstood intense pressure from Marco Bezzecchi until lap 19, when the Italian finally executed his race-winning maneuver. Marco Bezzecchi then pulled away to win by 4.26 seconds, leaving Raul Fernandez to secure a hard-fought second place.
