Mohamed Salah has etched his name into the history books of the Turkish Super Lig by becoming the fastest player to reach 10 goal contributions in the competition.
During Trabzonspor's 3-0 victory over Samsunspor on Saturday, the Egyptian star provided an assist for his teammate Francolino, marking his third assist of the season. Combined with his seven goals since arriving from Liverpool during the summer transfer window, Salah achieved double figures in goal contributions after just seven appearances for his new club.
With this impressive run, Salah currently sits at the top of the Turkish Super Lig scoring charts alongside Gift Orban of Umit Sortif. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray, Vedat Muriqi of Fenerbahce, and Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir have each netted six goals, and Salah's latest assist also places him level at the summit of the league's assist standings. Trabzonspor currently hold fifth place in the Turkish Super Lig standings, sitting three points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray, whom they defeated 4-0 prior to the international break.
This stellar return to club form follows a tumultuous period for Salah during his time with the Egyptian national team. Salah departed the Egypt camp ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan following a reported disagreement with coach Hossam Hassan. The forward had previously been substituted after just 60 minutes in Egypt's match against Angola, with coach Hassan citing technical reasons for the change. Subsequent reports indicated that Salah left the squad after taking exception to remarks made by Hassan regarding injured goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
The Egyptian Football Association released a statement clarifying that it was always planned for Salah to miss the fixture against South Sudan in Juba due to the artificial playing surface, with the intention that he would rejoin the squad for a friendly against South Africa in Cairo on October 4. However, Salah did not return, and Egypt ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat in the match. Multiple news outlets reported that he traveled to England before heading back to Turkey to resume training with Trabzonspor ahead of the league's return on October 10.
