Russia and Ukraine have successfully exchanged a further 206 prisoners, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, following crucial mediation by the UAE.

The successful UAE-led talks resulted in the liberation of 103 Russian and 103 Ukrainian prisoners, pushing the cumulative total of individuals exchanged through these specific mediations to 7,997. Previously, the most recent prisoner exchange between the two warring nations was made public on June 26, which saw the release of 320 prisoners.

Expressing gratitude, the ministry thanked both countries for their ongoing co-operation with the UAE’s continued efforts to act as a trusted international mediator. Furthermore, the ministry confirmed that the Emirates remain committed to supporting initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, alongside addressing the severe humanitarian impact on refugees and prisoners.

Highlighting the UAE's role, the country has consistently contributed to the global push to bring an end to the conflict, which officially began in February 2022. Back in January, Abu Dhabi notably hosted US-brokered talks between Russia and Ukraine. Demonstrating its strong relations with both nations, the UAE has now conducted a total of 26 mediations throughout the duration of the war. In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin formally thanked President Sheikh Mohamed for the UAE's continued and successful efforts in this regard.
