Shadrack Sibiya, the deputy head of South Africa’s police, has resigned from his position following allegations of corruption and rape. Sibiya has denied these accusations.

Sibiya was scheduled to attend a disciplinary hearing on Monday. However, his legal representatives submitted his resignation at the commencement of the proceedings. A spokesperson commented on the social media platform X, stating that Sibiya's departure is considered a “dishonourable discharge” in light of the ongoing disciplinary case against him. He had been on suspension since September of the previous year.

Currently, Sibiya is in prison subsequent to his arrest last month on charges of alleged rape and grooming of a minor. His request for bail has been deferred to October 13.

The former deputy police chief has also been under scrutiny by a judicial commission of inquiry. This commission is investigating claims of corruption within the South African police force and alleged connections to organised crime. During his testimony at the commission, Sibiya was accused of accepting substantial amounts of cash and gifts from individuals suspected of criminal activities, which he refuted.
