Will Ahmed, the Egyptian-American chief executive of Whoop, has announced the debut of an Arabic language option on the company's platform, highlighting a significant expansion of its services in the Middle East. This new feature joins English, French, German, Latin American Spanish, European Portuguese, and Italian as available languages on the wearable fitness tracker's app.

Ahmed expressed the personal significance of the Arabic addition, stating, “My father is Egyptian and immigrated to the United States, and when I was younger I had the fortune of being able to travel with him throughout the Middle East.” He recalled his first visit to the UAE at 14 or 15 and has continued to visit the region since.

The Gulf region represents Whoop's “fastest-growing market globally,” according to Ahmed, who views the increasing adoption of wearable technology in the area as a “critical footprint for growth.” He further elaborated, “Launching the Whoop experience in Arabic is part of our wider commitment to residents of the GCC, giving native speakers access to personal health insights in the language they use every day.”

Despite challenges faced by some tech companies in adapting to the complexities of Arabic, Whoop invested considerable time collaborating with Arabic-speaking members to ensure a smooth rollout. “Their feedback helped us identify where we could improve and get the details right,” Ahmed noted. The Arabic option will be implemented gradually through app updates.

Ahmed also observed the region's swift embrace of technology's role in personal health management, a vision shared by his Boston-based company. “Our continued commitment to the GCC comes from a deep respect for the leadership in the region and what they’re trying to accomplish,” he added.

The launch was marked by a social media video showcasing users across the Middle East utilizing Whoop devices, accompanied by Ahmed's post, “Yallah!” Since launching Whoop in 2012, the company has cultivated a dedicated user base, particularly among professional athletes.

Dr. Ami Bhatt, Whoop's first chief medical officer, recently noted an increase in women across the Middle East using Whoop devices to monitor their health, with female member growth in the GCC exceeding 90 percent year-over-year. This aligns with Ahmed's earlier announcement in August regarding the opening of a second Whoop office in the UAE, deemed “critical for growth.”

In March, Whoop secured $575 million in Series G funding, led by Abu Dhabi and Qatari sovereign wealth funds, including Mubadala Investment Company, 2PointZero Group, and the Qatar Investment Authority. The company actively participates in fitness initiatives like the Dubai Fitness Challenge and Doha Marathon, and serves as the official health and performance wearable for UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Al Nassr Football Club.

The article also touches upon a controversy during the Australian Open where players were required to remove Whoop devices, prompting Ahmed to post, “Data is not steroids.” He previously expressed satisfaction in April regarding Whoop's clearance for use in major tennis tournaments like the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.
