Ukrainian firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze at an apartment building in Kyiv following a Russian missile strike. The attacks, described by Russia's Defence Ministry as a "massive" strike against communications and energy infrastructure, resulted in at least six fatalities across Ukraine and caused power disruptions in parts of the capital. This comes days after United States President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” concerning the ongoing war.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain in shelters, stating on Telegram, "Energy facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region have come under a massive ballistic missile strike. There are power disruptions in the capital." DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy provider, confirmed that the attack led to emergency power cuts in several Kyiv districts.

The state emergency service reported that two people died in a strike on a multistorey building in the Desnianskyi district, and one person was killed in the Golosiivsky district. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian attacks resulted in two deaths and six wounded. Another fatality was reported in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Missile attacks were also reported in the Kharkiv and Zhytomyr regions, with strikes hitting Sumy and Chernigiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed frustration on Facebook, noting that the attacks on Kyiv occurred without advance warning from Western allies. "A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, no early warning from our partners," he wrote. "This is absolutely unjust: when they are destroying our infrastructure, and Ukraine is not even receiving early warnings about ballistic missile launches." Zelenskyy added that Ukraine detected the missiles only as they neared Kyiv.

President Zelenskyy also accused Russia of violating the “energy ceasefire” announced by President Trump, stating on X, "A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure – the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President." He characterized the strike as "entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale – Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States."

Meanwhile, Russia reported Ukrainian drone strikes overnight. Roman Busargin, the governor of Russia’s Saratov region, stated that a Ukrainian drone strike killed one person in the city of Balakovo, though he noted that infrastructure facilities were operating normally. Balakovo is home to a Sberbank data centre, a nuclear power plant, and a hydropower station.

Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that air defence forces downed nearly 500 drones targeting the Russian capital overnight. Russian authorities also stated that approximately 160 drones were intercepted over the Rostov region, with others aimed at Moscow. Russia’s military later claimed to have downed a total of 902 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 180 of those shot down near Moscow.
