Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Hamas political bureau chief Khalil Al Hayya and other senior leaders in Doha on Wednesday to review ongoing developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed acknowledged Hamas’s decision to accept a roadmap for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He expressed hope that this move would alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and promote regional security and stability.

Furthermore, he urged the international community to pressure Israel into fulfilling its obligations under the agreement and halting violations of Palestinian rights, emphasizing that these steps are vital for successfully implementing the roadmap and achieving enduring peace.

This diplomatic engagement coincides with efforts by international mediators to advance U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, which continues to face substantial barriers. Recently, U.S. envoy Jared Kushner met with Al Hayya and other Hamas representatives in Egypt to help restart the stalled framework, with active participation from Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators.

The U.S.-backed initiative proposes the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, alongside the formation of a civilian Palestinian administration and comprehensive reconstruction programs. While Hamas has shown conditional backing for the proposal, it continues to demand a complete halt to Israeli attacks and a full military withdrawal prior to completing disarmament. Conversely, Israel maintains its stance that Hamas must disarm fully before any withdrawal takes place.

In a related development, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt issued a joint statement condemning Israel's reported rejection of the roadmap. They warned that such opposition threatens to derail efforts to end the conflict and secure lasting peace. The ministers stressed that the accepted roadmap represents the culmination of extensive mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, Türkiye, the U.S., and international partners, calling for its immediate and full execution.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari noted during a press briefing that Hamas’s agreement to the plan's disarmament provisions marks a significant milestone that now obligates Israel to meet its own commitments across both phases of the pact.
