Egypt Unveils Advanced Laser System to Combat Drone Threats

Footage released by the Egyptian Armed Forces’ military spokesperson has revealed that Cairo possesses a new weapon specifically designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to a report by RT on Friday. The visuals showcase a locally manufactured laser system, identified as “Egy-Hel-01,” which is mounted on a pickup truck and engineered to neutralize drones and projectiles. This marks the first public unveiling of the system.

The military spokesperson announced that Defense Minister Ashraf Salem Zaher observed the main phase of a live-fire tactical exercise. This exercise was conducted by a unit of the Second Field Army and involved the participation of the Air Force, artillery, armored units, and special forces. The core of the exercise focused on executing combat operations to advance offensive capabilities. This included Air Force sorties for reconnaissance, security, and support missions, complemented by artillery fire intended to neutralize and destroy enemy defenses.

The drills also featured the deployment of armored and mechanized forces tasked with breaching and engaging enemy defenses. These operations were supported by armed helicopters. Concurrently, paratrooper and commando units performed insertion and raid operations to eliminate identified targets.
