Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a series of calls with regional foreign ministers on Sunday to discuss pressing security and stability matters. These discussions come in the wake of escalating attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen against Saudi Arabia. Since the beginning of October, Saudi Arabia has been targeted by the Houthis, with 20 attacks reported on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport alone since October 1. A particularly deadly assault on October 10 resulted in 13 fatalities and left 308 individuals wounded.
During these crucial conversations, Sheikh Abdullah engaged with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs; Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Foreign Minister; Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for Jordan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; and Badr Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman. The reports from the state news agency Wam indicate a unified concern over the regional security landscape and a pledge of support from Egypt for Saudi Arabia, even as the Houthis issue warnings against intervention.
