Egypt is set to transition back to standard time, often referred to as winter time, this Friday. Clocks will be adjusted backward by 60 minutes, marking the end of daylight saving time which began in April.
The official switch to winter time will occur at midnight on the last Thursday of October. Specifically, clocks will be moved back by 60 minutes, shifting the time from midnight to 11:00 PM. This change comes just 10 days after the official end of summer, which was defined as the last Thursday of September.
In anticipation of the time change, various establishments have already begun implementing their winter operating hours. This adjustment follows a decision by the Ministry of Local Development. The summer season was officially defined as the period from the last Friday of April to the last Thursday of September.
Operating hours for different types of businesses have been set. Restaurants and cafes will operate from 5:00 AM to midnight. Bazaars will follow the same schedule, from 5:00 AM to 12:00 midnight. Retail shops and malls will be open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with extended hours until 11:00 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, official public holidays, and festive occasions. Workshops and craft businesses located within residential areas will operate from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
