Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday emphasized the strong bonds that unite Gulf nations, unequivocally rejecting any attempts to create discord among them. In an inspiring message shared on social media, Sheikh Mohammed reflected on the region's significant evolution from humble beginnings to becoming global centers of influence. He highlighted how the people of the Gulf have established themselves as prominent global actors, hosting major events and driving economic progress, all while preserving their rich heritage and distinct identity.
Amidst a year marked by considerable adversity, including missile and drone attacks faced by the UAE and Houthi rebel actions against Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the critical importance of collective action for future prosperity. He asserted that the unity, built on shared history, geography, and economic development, should not be undermined by online misinformation or narrow-minded agendas. He further stated that such campaigns are incapable of erasing historical ties, altering geographical realities, or changing familial connections.
This heartfelt address to the Gulf populace is an excerpt from his new book, 'The Letters.' Sheikh Mohammed wrote, "What united the Gulf was not political agreements, but generations who lived along its shores." He elaborated, "In the Gulf, hearts met before borders, and lineages embraced before homelands, and love flourished before development. The Gulf is a great tree whose branches have multiplied, whose fruits have adorned it, and whose shades have bloomed, but its root is one, and its trunk is one, and its water is one, and its destiny is one, God willing."
Striking an optimistic note, Sheikh Mohammed expressed confidence that aligned Gulf aspirations can transform seemingly impossible projects into reality. He noted that history teaches that "the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts," and true strength lies not in suppressing differences but in collaborative efforts to generate new opportunities. "I am optimistic about the Gulf and I shall remain so," Sheikh Mohammed declared. "The Gulf endures, God willing, with its desert, with its sons, with its sea and its ports, with its projects and the resolve of its generations, with its spaces in which our dreams will soar to keep our Gulf one and our people one, proclaiming with an unbroken voice: I am a Gulf citizen and I am proud to be a Gulf citizen."
The Dubai Ruler's comments followed remarks by Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, who called for an end to the "folly and pettiness we witness in Gulf squabbles across social media." Dr. Gargash stated, "We are passing through a pivotal stage that demands awareness and responsibility from us all. We may differ in our assessments of situations, but there is no substitute for solidarity, prioritizing wisdom, and rejecting bickering." He welcomed a recent meeting between President Sheikh Mohamed and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman, where they discussed regional developments aimed at strengthening security, stability, and lasting peace. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, also attended the meeting. Dr. Gargash affirmed that these meetings underscored the strength of Emirati-Saudi relations, stating, "For our security and destiny are shared, and our partnership is one of the pillars of Gulf stability and prosperity, while the wisdom of the two leaderships and the sincerity of positions in times of adversity provide the most eloquent response to every bet against that."
