President Sheikh Mohamed hosted a welcoming ceremony on Wednesday for Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, marking the commencement of his working visit to the United Arab Emirates. The official reception in Abu Dhabi featured a guard of honour for Mr. Wong, accompanied by the playing of the national anthems of both the UAE and Singapore. A distinguished welcoming party was in attendance, including Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, Adviser to the UAE President, alongside several ministers and officials.

Mr. Wong had previously engaged in discussions with the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince after commencing his visit to the Emirates on Tuesday. Their discussions centered on the long-standing bilateral ties between the two nations, followed by a tour of the iconic Zayed National Museum, located in the Saadiyat Cultural District.

The UAE and Singapore established formal diplomatic relations in 1985, and their relationship has seen consistent growth across several vital sectors over the ensuing decades. In February 2019, both governments formalized the Singapore-UAE Comprehensive Partnership, a framework designed to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defense, security, and sustainable development. Currently, over 600 Singaporean companies operate within the Emirates, focusing on key sectors including fintech, healthcare, infrastructure, and education.

In October 2024, Sheikh Khaled undertook an official visit to Singapore, during which he held discussions with Mr. Wong and oversaw the signing of numerous agreements aimed at strengthening collaboration in artificial intelligence, education, and renewable energy. High-level talks were also conducted at the Singapore Parliament House, reinforcing the enduring ties between the two countries. During this meeting, Sheikh Khaled emphasized the significance of promoting UAE-Singapore collaboration, with a particular focus on advanced technology, clean energy, and urban planning.
