Dubai Police have taken significant action against vehicles with excessive noise and illegal modifications, issuing over 7,730 traffic fines and impounding 1,630 vehicles in the first nine months of the year. These measures are part of an intensified effort to enhance road safety and improve the quality of life for residents.
The crackdown resulted in 2,045 violations for excessive vehicle noise, leading to the impoundment of 333 vehicles. Additionally, 5,690 breaches were recorded for illegal modifications to vehicle engines or chassis, with 1,297 vehicles seized as a consequence.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, director of the traffic department at Dubai Police, highlighted the disruptive impact of loud vehicles, particularly modified cars and motorcycles, on residential areas, especially during nighttime. "Excessive noise can disturb residential neighbourhoods, especially at night. It affects public well-being," Brig bin Suwaidan stated. He also noted that sudden or unusually loud sounds can distract drivers and other road users, thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
Dubai Police are actively increasing inspections and traffic monitoring to identify and penalize offenders. Under UAE traffic regulations, driving a vehicle that generates excessive noise incurs a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 black points. Illegal modifications to a vehicle's engine or chassis result in a Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points, and a 30-day impoundment period.
The force is also preparing to expand the use of advanced devices designed to detect and measure vehicle noise. These devices will be deployed more extensively on roads and in areas prone to violations, helping authorities pinpoint sources of excessive noise and offending vehicles, thus strengthening monitoring and enforcement capabilities. "The expansion reflected the force’s commitment to using smart technologies to improve road safety and protect residents’ quality of life," Brig bin Suwaidan added.
Brig bin Suwaidan urged motorists, particularly young drivers, to adhere to traffic laws and refrain from making illegal engine and exhaust modifications. He credited stronger enforcement and public awareness campaigns for a recent decrease in excessive vehicle noise.
Dubai Police previously announced in November their intention to enhance radar capacity to target noisy vehicles and promote a calmer environment on the emirate's roads. The force is currently utilizing AI-enhanced cameras capable of detecting noises and documenting offenses when noise limits are exceeded. In 2024, Dubai Police issued 12,019 fines for unauthorized vehicle modifications that caused excessive noise and significant changes to engines or chassis.
Motorists and community members are encouraged by Dubai Police to utilize the Aman roads platforms for traffic safety guidance and educational resources aimed at preventing accidents and safeguarding lives and property.
