The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced plans to invest an additional €15 billion (Dh61.7 billion) into Greece, significantly expanding a joint initiative between the two nations. This substantial new commitment was revealed during an official visit to Greece by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on Thursday.

This latest investment builds upon the existing joint investment initiative, which was initially launched in May 2022 with an allocation of €4 billion, as reported by the Abu Dhabi Media Office. The initiative has been instrumental in establishing a framework for developing and implementing strategic investments across sectors of mutual interest, leading to the successful completion of significant transactions in critical areas such as energy and healthcare.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the increased investment underscores the mutual trust between the UAE and Greece. It presents an opportunity to explore new ventures in vital and future-oriented sectors, aiming to foster sustainable economic growth and enhance the global competitiveness of both economies. The announcement also signifies the UAE's confidence in Greece's economic and investment capabilities, its strategic geographical position connecting European, regional, and international markets, and the promising potential for developing major projects and long-term partnerships.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister's Office. Their discussions centered on strengthening collaboration across key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. The leaders also reviewed regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of reinforcing security, peace, and stability.

Sheikh Khaled was welcomed at Athens International Airport by George Gerapetritis, the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, according to the state news agency Wam.
