Palestinians worked to extinguish a vehicle fire in Gaza City on October 22, 2026, following an Israeli strike. In the last 24 hours, Israeli attacks across Gaza have resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians, including a child, as the Israeli military intensifies its territorial control within the region. The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that a young girl was killed by Israeli gunfire in northern Gaza, near the Jabalia refugee camp. Reporting from Gaza City, Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud stated that a strike targeting a vehicle in the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood claimed one life and left another person seriously injured. Separately, a man riding a bicycle in the southern city of Khan Younis was killed in another strike. The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed on Thursday that a fourth individual had succumbed to wounds sustained from an earlier Israeli strike.
Alongside these fatal incidents, the Israeli military continues to occupy more land within Gaza. The territory, home to nearly two million people, is increasingly confined and strewn with thousands of tonnes of rubble and debris. Mahmoud observed that "Israel is expanding their control inside Gaza," noting that Israeli troops have been "taking more land since the ceasefire" and advancing from northern Gaza towards the center and west. "People cannot return to their homes, and most buildings in the areas Israel controls have been left in ruins," the reporter added. Al Jazeera's analysis of maps indicates that approximately two-thirds of Gaza is currently under Israeli military control or subject to restricted access. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 1,538 Palestinians have been killed and 5,498 injured since the "ceasefire" was implemented last October. It is noted that Israel has killed over 74,400 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.
