The homegrown brand responsible for the viral "Dubai chocolate" sensation has achieved further acclaim by securing a significant UAE award. Fix Dessert, a venture led by the husband-and-wife duo Sarah Hamouda and Yezen Alani, gained international recognition in 2024 with its popular Can’t Get Knafeh of It bar, a unique confection featuring pistachio, knafeh, and tahini. The company has now been honored for its outstanding culinary achievements, being named a winner in the business projects category of the first-ever Dubai-it prize.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, lauded the chocolate maker for its worldwide influence following the announcement of their award win. "Sarah Hamouda and Yezen Alani transformed a home-based business in Dubai into a global success," Sheikh Hamdan stated on the social media platform X. He highlighted the remarkable growth, noting that "Sales of Dubai-style chocolate surged by 1,234% in one year, and today, these products are sold in markets around the world and at more than 100 airports." Sheikh Hamdan further commented, "This is the spirit of Dubai-it: transforming a simple home-based business into a global success. Congratulations to the Fix Dessert team."
Since its online debut in 2021, Fix Dessert has expanded its presence to include two stores at Dubai International Airport, a location at Singapore's Changi Airport, and a concession at Harrods in London. The brand has also hosted numerous pop-up events across the UAE. Currently, Fix Dessert offers a range of 10 distinct dessert bars, complemented by seasonal and limited-edition creations.
The Dubai-it prize is part of the Dubai-it strategy, unveiled in June by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. This initiative aims to foster a culture of excellence among companies, institutions, and future generations within the emirate, serving as a catalyst for future achievements and high ambitions. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid emphasized that Dubai's successes are built on "achieving exceptional results in record time, with precision and excellence." The Dubai-it award was established to recognize innovation, enterprise, and expertise among individuals and businesses in the city. Earlier this month, SWS Board Technology, a Dubai-based manufacturer that produces nearly half of the world's kiteboards and wakeboards, was recognized as the winner in the economy category of the awards.
