Dubai authorities have announced a comprehensive new strategy aimed at bolstering food security across the emirate. The Dubai Food Security Strategy 2030, revealed on Sunday by the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, seeks to guarantee that all residents of Dubai have access to sufficient and safe food, as reported by the emirate's media office. This significant initiative, endorsed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, is structured around five pivotal pillars: food availability, affordability, quality and safety, sustainability and resilience, and industry empowerment.
Ahmed bin Thani, Director General of the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, stated, “The Dubai Food Security Strategy 2030 is founded on a clear vision to position Dubai as a global leader in sustainable food security, supported by advanced technologies and resilient supply chains. This strategy will contribute to boosting local production, reducing food waste, and ensuring the availability and affordability of healthy food.”
To achieve these objectives, five strategic initiatives have been established. The first initiative focuses on fostering the growth of agriculture and food production industries, optimizing resource utilization, enhancing sector competitiveness, and promoting sustainable practices. The second initiative is dedicated to strengthening food supply chains through various strategic projects designed to create an efficient, agile, and responsive food supply system capable of meeting evolving demands, adapting to market conditions, and responding effectively to emergencies.
The third initiative aims to encourage healthy, sustainable food consumption patterns while simultaneously reducing food loss and waste through public awareness campaigns. The fourth initiative focuses on enhancing governance, regulation, and economic support for integrated food systems, thereby strengthening the sector's capacity to attract sustainable investments. Finally, the fifth initiative is committed to developing a food ecosystem that can adapt to market fluctuations, leveraging advanced, partnership-driven infrastructure to effectively meet market demands and consumer needs.
