India secured a commanding six-wicket victory and clinched the T20I series against New Zealand in Wellington, propelled by a spectacular century from Abhishek Sharma and a rapid partnership with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The win, achieved with two games remaining in the five-match series, saw India successfully chase down New Zealand's total of 198 in just 13.2 overs.

Sharma was the star of the show, smashing an unbeaten 113 off 38 balls, while Sooryavanshi contributed a quickfire 45 off 19 deliveries. Their explosive 133-run opening stand, which came in a mere 7.1 overs, decimated the New Zealand bowling attack and is being hailed as one of the most destructive partnerships in T20I history. The onslaught began early, with Jacob Duffy's opening over conceding 26 runs, and the Indian openers maintained relentless pressure.

Sharma's innings was a dazzling display of power-hitting, featuring nine fours and an impressive 11 sixes. He received a standing ovation upon his dismissal by Kyle Jamieson, by which point India had already amassed 178-2 in just 10 overs.

"The key was pretty simple: Vaibhav and I enjoyed our time," Sharma commented on their partnership. "When we were fielding, we saw there was some extra bounce. Vaibhav started off well, and we took the momentum from there." Sooryavanshi, promoted to open the innings, also impressed with four fours and four sixes.

India captain Shreyas Iyer lauded the performance, stating, "Getting 100 in five overs – I have not seen that before at the international level. Credit where it is due, the way they played was exceptional."

India had won the toss for the third consecutive match and opted to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh made early inroads, extracting significant seam movement from the pitch. New Zealand's Tim Seifert was dismissed early, top-edging Singh for just two runs. Daryl Mitchell then joined Finn Allen, forming an 86-run partnership. Mitchell adapted well to the conditions, using his footwork to counter the seam movement and punishing short deliveries with powerful shots to the square boundaries. He finished with 89 runs from 52 balls, including five fours and five sixes.

Allen contributed 40 runs from 25 balls before his departure. Mitchell found another capable partner in Bevon Jacobs, who remained unbeaten on 39 from 23 deliveries.

The fourth T20I is scheduled to take place at Auckland's Eden Park on Friday.
