Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a meeting with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Moscow, Russia. The encounter took place on the sidelines of the 8th Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit on October 27.
According to Iranian state media, the two leaders reviewed the current state of relations between Tehran and Doha. They emphasized the importance of expanding political and economic ties and leveraging existing capacities to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Discussions also reportedly focused on increasing cooperation within the energy sector during their meeting at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow. Notably, the US-Israel war on Iran, which has involved Iranian missile and drone strikes across the region including Qatar, was not mentioned as a topic of discussion.
Doha has been actively involved in mediation efforts to end the nearly eight-month-old conflict. A foreign ministry spokesman had previously called for Iran to cease threatening Gulf states to facilitate diplomatic de-escalation in the Middle East. He also mentioned a Qatari delegation's visit to Tehran to support mediation and aid in paving the way for a resolution with the United States.
