Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, engaged in high-level discussions in Canada with Prime Minister Mark Carney, resulting in the finalization of key agreements designed to strengthen strategic ties across defense, diplomacy, and renewable energy sectors. The leaders oversaw the signing of accords intended to foster enhanced collaboration in mining, logistics, energy, and investment, utilizing sovereign wealth funds, as reported by the Abu Dhabi Media Office on Wednesday. Additionally, Emirati and Canadian companies have committed to driving C$21.1 billion (US$15 billion) in trade through a significant bilateral investment framework.

During his official visit to Canada, Sheikh Khaled met with Mr. Carney at Parliament Hill in Ottawa to explore avenues for enhancing long-standing relations. The discussions specifically targeted strengthening links in critical areas such as artificial intelligence, aviation, food security, infrastructure, and logistics. Sheikh Khaled underscored the UAE's dedication to forging enduring partnerships with Canada, aligning with the developmental objectives of both nations. Both sides also examined strategies to advance cooperation between their respective business communities and promote joint ventures and investments.

Furthermore, Sheikh Khaled and Mr. Carney exchanged perspectives on various international and regional matters, emphasizing the importance of promoting dialogue and diplomatic resolutions to foster peace and security globally. Sheikh Khaled inscribed his remarks in the Distinguished Visitors Book at Parliament Hill, expressing pride in UAE-Canada relations and optimism for the visit to unlock new opportunities.

The visit included Sheikh Khaled attending a dinner hosted by Mr. Carney on Tuesday. Mr. Carney extended a warm welcome to Sheikh Khaled, expressing hopes that the visit would further solidify the friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Canada. Sheikh Khaled conveyed his gratitude for the cordial reception and generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

This significant visit follows closely after a phone conversation between President Sheikh Mohamed and Mr. Carney, during which they discussed deepening partnerships with a focus on the economy, investment, and advanced technology. In July, the UAE concluded a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Canada, aimed at reducing trade barriers for goods, services, and investment. This agreement followed a US$50 billion investment commitment from the UAE government during Mr. Carney's visit to the UAE in November. The CEPA is expected to grant Canadian companies improved access to the UAE market, which serves as the largest market for Canadian exports to the Middle East, and potentially attract capital into sectors like energy, mining, artificial intelligence, and ports.
