Etihad Airways and Emirates have secured the top two positions in a new assessment of the world's most extravagant airline luxuries, according to air passenger rights company AirAdvisor. Etihad's 'The Residence,' a unique three-room suite aboard its Airbus A380, claimed the leading spot. Emirates followed closely, recognized for its A380 Shower Spa and its A380 Onboard Lounge. Qatar Airways also made an appearance with its Al Safwa First Lounge in Doha, which features a spa and a thermal jacuzzi.
The ranking specifically evaluates individual luxury experiences rather than an airline's overall offerings, focusing on amenities that surpass standard first and business-class services. The top 10 airline luxuries identified are:
Etihad's three-room suite, 'The Residence,' earned a near-perfect score of 98 out of 100. Available on Etihad's A380 aircraft, this suite accommodates up to two passengers and includes a separate living room, a double bedroom, and an en suite shower room, offering distinct areas for dining, relaxation, and sleeping. The inclusion of a private shower is a rarity on commercial flights.
Emirates secured second place with 91 points for its A380 Shower Spa, a facility for first-class passengers that includes a vanity area, changing space, and heated flooring. The airline also ranked eighth with 76 points for its A380 Onboard Lounge, accessible to first and business-class passengers, featuring a dedicated bartender and communal seating for drinks and light snacks.
Qatar Airways' Al Safwa First Lounge at Hamad International Airport placed ninth with 72 points. Its Qspa offers nine treatment rooms and a thermal jacuzzi, extending the luxury experience to pre-flight hours. This lounge is one of two airport-based amenities featured in the ranking.
Air France's La Premiere private airport suites at Paris Charles de Gaulle secured fourth place. These suites, available for separate booking, span approximately 45 square meters and include a living and dining area, a double bedroom, a bathroom, and an outdoor patio. Guests also have access to the La Premiere lounge and Sisley spa.
Several entries highlight the trend of creating more space for couples or small groups. Swiss's First Grand Suite, ranked third, combines two adjacent first-class suites, including the aisle, to create a private space for up to three travelers. Singapore Airlines' A380 Suites, fifth, feature a separate chair and bed, with the option to combine beds in adjoining suites. Lufthansa's Allegris First Class Suite Plus, sixth, offers two independently controlled seats that convert into a double bed within a private suite. Japan Airlines' A350-1000 first-class product, seventh, includes a personal minibar, a 43-inch screen, and a bed up to 123cm wide. Virgin Atlantic's Retreat Suite, rounding out the top 10, is a business-class offering designed for up to four passengers to dine, work, or socialize.
AirAdvisor's methodology, based on publicly available information accessed in September 2026, focused on verifiable experiences from official airline or airport sources. Private aviation, discontinued amenities, and concepts not yet available to passengers were excluded. Extravagance was the most heavily weighted criterion (35%), followed by rarity (25%), privacy and exclusivity (20%), scarcity of access (10%), and the experience beyond the seat (10%). Experiences limited to specific aircraft or routes received higher scarcity scores. AirAdvisor advises passengers to verify aircraft and cabin configurations before booking, as premium experiences can vary significantly.
