Egyptian Ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Nihad Abdel Latif, held a pivotal meeting with Mehdi Tazi-Riffi, CEO and Chairman of Tanger Med Group, at the group’s headquarters in Tangier city, Morocco. The discussion centered on expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors including ports, industrial zones, and logistics.

The meeting, which was also attended by Moataz Bellah Ali, Egypt’s Commercial Counselor in Morocco, underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening economic relations and advancing the shared objective of establishing a comprehensive economic partnership between the two nations.

Ambassador Abdel Latif highlighted the significant outcomes of the first session of the Joint Coordination and Follow-up Committee, which convened in Cairo on April 6. He noted that the committee's proceedings, co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries, demonstrated a clear dedication to deepening economic ties through enhanced trade, joint investments, industrial integration, and improved cooperation in transport and logistics.

Abdel Latif also emphasized Egypt's robust industrial, production, and logistical capabilities, citing the substantial progress achieved in its infrastructure and transport development in recent years. In response, Tazi-Riffi shared insights into Tanger Med's successful integrated model, which effectively links port operations with adjacent industrial zones and plays a crucial role in facilitating international trade and the global movement of goods.

The discussions explored potential collaboration opportunities between Tanger Med and Egyptian ports, as well as the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Both parties underscored the importance of reinforcing the connections between ports, industrial zones, and logistics hubs in Egypt and Morocco to bolster their international competitiveness and expand their influence in global trade and investment.

Further points of discussion included the exchange of expertise in port management and operations, the development of industrial zones, leveraging the transport and logistics networks of both countries, and fostering partnerships between Egyptian and Moroccan private sector companies. This proposed cooperation is anticipated to generate new avenues for manufacturing, exports, and investment, thereby broadening market access for Egyptian and Moroccan products in both African and European regions.
