Abu Dhabi Health Services (Seha), a part of PureHealth, has initiated a year-long nationwide campaign titled 'She Donates, We Thrive' to underscore the vital role women play in the UAE's blood donation efforts and to inspire greater participation. This initiative aims to highlight the significance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening the nation's healthcare system.

Since 2020, a significant number of Emirati women, 8,599 to be precise, have registered as blood donors, contributing 4,022 donations that have been crucial in maintaining adequate blood supplies for transfusions and emergency medical needs. Seha emphasizes that a diverse donor base is essential to prevent critical shortages, especially given the varied demands across all demographics, including those arising from childbirth complications experienced by women.

The campaign will feature a range of women-focused awareness activities, educational outreach programs, community engagement events, and donor recognition ceremonies throughout the year. The primary goal is to enhance public understanding of voluntary blood donation and to foster sustained involvement among eligible women.

Dr. Eiman Al Zaabi, Medical Director at Seha's Blood Bank Services, acknowledged the substantial and increasing contribution of women to voluntary blood donation. "This campaign provides an opportunity to recognize that contribution while encouraging more eligible women to take part," stated Dr. Al Zaabi. "By maintaining engagement throughout the year through education, awareness, and recognition, we aim to support regular donation and strengthen a culture of community responsibility."

This initiative reaffirms Seha's dedication to ensuring a safe and sustainable blood supply, recognizing the pivotal role individuals and communities play in meeting the ongoing blood requirements of patients. To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh at least 50kg, be in good health, and possess an Emirates ID. Tourists and visitors are generally not permitted to donate.
