The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday conveyed its solidarity with India following a devastating helicopter crash in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. The incident resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including the pilot, as reported by the Indian news agency ANI.
According to a media statement from the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), the helicopter was en route from Badrinath, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site nestled in the mountains, to Dehradun city. Authorities suspect that adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the crash, with the aircraft reportedly losing contact with air traffic control shortly after its departure.
The region had been under an 'orange alert' prior to the incident, as the country's weather department had forecast isolated thunderstorms, hailstorms, and winds potentially reaching speeds of up to 50 km per hour in the affected area.
