Dubai witnessed a record-breaking turnout on Sunday morning as the seventh edition of the annual community cycling event, Dubai Ride, attracted an unprecedented 41,836 participants. Presented by DP World, the event saw the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road transformed into a vibrant cycling track, allowing riders of all ages and abilities to pedal past some of the city's most recognizable landmarks. This year's participation figure surpassed the previous record of 40,327 set last year, marking a significant increase.
Participants had the choice of two routes: a 12km course along Sheikh Zayed Road, offering views of the Museum of the Future and Dubai Water Canal, and a shorter, 4km family-friendly route winding through Downtown Dubai, past the Dubai Mall and Dubai Opera, with the Burj Khalifa as a backdrop. The free event commenced at 6:15 am, with participants advised to arrive early. Unlike a typical race, Dubai Ride is untimed, emphasizing participation and personal pace over competition. Special provisions were made for People of Determination, including dedicated starting areas and support for adapted bicycles and handcycles.
The 41,836 cyclists represent a 3.7 per cent increase from the previous year and a nearly 13 per cent rise since 2024, when 37,130 riders participated. Dubai Ride is a key event within the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. Launched in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the initiative aims to encourage residents and visitors to engage in 30 minutes of daily exercise for 30 consecutive days. The Dubai Fitness Challenge runs until November 29 and features a variety of free fitness classes, community activities, and events across the emirate. Upcoming events include Dubai Stand-Up Paddle at Hatta Dam (November 7-8) and Dubai Run (November 22), which will also see Sheikh Zayed Road closed to traffic and is expected to draw a large crowd, following last year's record 307,000 participants. The challenge concludes with Dubai Yoga on November 29.
