Dubai's workforce can now embrace nature as their office, with the launch of the 'Work from Park' initiative. This program allows individuals to work amidst the greenery and serene lake views of Al Barsha Pond Park for a daily fee of Dh50. Initially announced earlier this year, Al Barsha Pond Park has been established as the premier location for this innovative project.
Dubai Municipality, in partnership with Letswork and Group Amana, has spearheaded this initiative at Al Barsha Pond Park. The project's core objective is to repurpose public green spaces into adaptable and functional workplaces, catering to remote workers, entrepreneurs, and businesses seeking an alternative to traditional office environments.
The facility at Al Barsha Pond Park features two distinct buildings. These offer a variety of workspace options, including an open-plan co-working area, private offices, and two meeting rooms available for group bookings. Essential amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi and power sockets are provided. Additionally, outdoor seating and rooftop areas allow for informal discussions and work sessions with picturesque views of the park and its lake.
Omar Almheiri, co-founder and chief technology officer of Letswork, explained that the development is segmented into three primary zones to accommodate diverse work requirements. The co-working area, with daily access starting at Dh50, includes workspace, power outlets, high-speed internet, and coffee. Bookings can be conveniently made via the Letswork website or app. Meeting rooms can be reserved by the hour or for a full day, with rates commencing at Dh200. The third zone comprises private office suites and dedicated desks, available for monthly or longer-term leases. Monthly rates for dedicated desks are set at Dh1,200, with pricing for private offices yet to be confirmed.
Almheiri highlighted the project's unique nature and the operator's focus on cultivating a working community, noting the limited availability of spaces. He also mentioned significant interest in the facility, evidenced by a substantial waiting list.
Ahmed Al Marzooqi, director of public parks at Dubai Municipality, indicated that the initiative might be extended to other parks, contingent on the demand observed at Al Barsha Pond Park. "We have a plan to expand after we see the demand at this place, to identify which parks. We expect a huge turnout of visitors," he stated.
The indoor facilities can accommodate over 45 individuals, with additional visitors welcome to utilize the outdoor seating areas free of charge, which also offer Wi-Fi access. The facility currently operates from 8 am to 8 pm, with potential adjustments to opening hours based on demand. Al Marzooqi emphasized that the initiative redefines the use of public parks in Dubai by integrating recreation, entertainment, and work, offering flexibility and potentially boosting productivity through its natural surroundings.
Fatima Al Marzooqi, an early user of the facility, shared her positive experience, finding it a refreshing departure from conventional office settings. "I will regularly come here. The environment and the atmosphere are different," she remarked. "It will make us more productive at work. The beautiful thing is that you are in the middle of green space, and it is very spacious, allowing you to work while enjoying the view of the pond here at Al Barsha Park."
For Sireen AbuSharib, a government employee, the park workspace offered a practical solution for managing her schedule, especially after a medical appointment. "It is a great initiative that saves time and effort, especially with the traffic in the city," she commented. "It is an amazing and unique project. You can work or have meetings here. The nice thing is that you don’t know who is working beside you, and it is a chance to communicate and build contacts."
