Spectacular images capturing the vastness of the Milky Way over a field of sunflowers, a daring skateboarder leaping through a ring of fire, and the vital work of a seaweed farmer are among the celebrated winners of this year's British Photography Awards. This prestigious competition is open to photographers across the UK and British photographers globally, recognizing excellence in a diverse array of categories.

In the drone category, Marc Lock's breathtaking shot, "That Dam Road," showcases a winding road near the Stwlan Dam in North Wales. Lock described the scene as "A marvel of man made engineering etched into the natural landscape of Eryri."

Another captivating winner emerged from the sports category, with Ethan Fraser's photograph, "The Ring of Fire," depicting a skateboarder in mid-air through a ring of fire. The image was captured at Kings Park Skatepark in Dorset during the King of Kings event, a gathering that unites the local skateboarding community and participants from across the nation. Annually, the event features a ring of fire lit in remembrance of Nathan Heard, a local skateboarder who passed away, challenging brave skaters to launch from the bowl and through the flames.

Brad Wakefield's documentary category win, "The Seaweed Farmer," sheds light on the environmentally friendly practice of seaweed farming. His atmospheric underwater portrait, taken off the coast of Cornwall, features Dan Hawkes, a harvest manager at the Cornish Seaweed Company, collecting the plant during a free dive. Seaweed harvesting is highlighted as one of the most sustainable methods for food production.

The British Photography Awards serve as a crucial platform for British photographers, operating entirely with a team of dedicated volunteers, many of whom are photographers themselves. All proceeds generated from the competition are donated to charity.
