As the United States midterm elections draw near, President Donald Trump's job approval rating remains near a historic low, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. Only 32 percent of those surveyed expressed approval of Trump's performance as president, a slight increase of 1 percentage point from two weeks prior. The Republican Party also faces challenges in public perception, with a poll indicating that 46 percent of respondents would favor a generic Democrat over a Republican candidate, compared to 38 percent who would prefer a Republican.

While President Trump is not directly on the ballot, he has urged his supporters to cast their votes as if they were voting for him. He has also cautioned that a loss of Republican control in the US Congress could lead to further impeachment attempts by Democrats. Polls suggest a steady decline in Trump's approval ratings, particularly following the commencement of the US-Israel war on Iran on February 28. This conflict has contributed to rising petrol and diesel prices, creating concerns among US consumers about inflation and the broader economy.

In an effort to bolster support for Republican candidates seeking to maintain their hold on the US House of Representatives and Senate, President Trump engaged in an extensive campaign tour lasting nearly a month leading up to the November 3 midterms. His campaign concluded on Monday afternoon with a rally at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC. This site has been a focus of the president's renovation efforts in the capital, a project that experienced significant delays and exceeded its original cost estimate by more than tenfold. A special liner for the pool, which Trump had promoted, reportedly began peeling shortly after installation.

During the rally, Trump commented on the renovation, stating, "It was a work of art that never worked, but now it will work." He dedicated a substantial portion of his speech to his urban renovation plans for the city, including a proposed "Triumphal Arch" that is currently facing legal challenges.

President Trump appeared to acknowledge the possibility that his campaigning might not yield the desired outcomes for his party, attributing this to the typical political dynamics of midterm elections. "For some reason, the sitting president doesn’t win the midterms," Trump remarked. "But we gave this a very strong shot."
