The football community is in deep mourning following the devastating announcement of the death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel. The 30-year-old player passed away after suffering a fatal on-field collision during a Spanish second division match between Tenerife and visiting Andorra.

The incident occurred seven minutes into added time at the end of the La Liga 2 game at Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez, with the score tied at 2-2. De Miguel, who had entered the match as a substitute in the 59th minute when his team was leading 2-0, was involved in a challenge near the midfield after the ball was cleared from the Tenerife penalty area. Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono's knee appeared to make contact with de Miguel's chest.

Medical staff were immediately summoned to the field, and the goalkeeper was shown a red card. The match was subsequently abandoned as players were visibly distressed and in tears. Spanish media reports indicate that de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while en route to the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Senora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Tenerife released a statement expressing their profound grief: “Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, we communicate the tragic death of Jesus de Miguel Alameda. There are no words of comfort. There is absolutely nothing to mitigate this feeling full of sadness. We are with his devastated family, with his loved ones, with all the people of Tenerife who today mourn this cruel outcome.” The club also conveyed that the player’s family is appreciative of the support shown and has requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

Madrid-born de Miguel had a notable career, making his debut in 2015 with Leganes B. He went on to play for eight other clubs in Spain before joining Tenerife on a three-year contract in 2025. He had made his professional debut with Castellon in August 2024 at the age of 27, having been the top scorer with 16 goals during his previous club's promotion to the second division in the 2023-2024 season.
