Qatar remains optimistic about a potential deal between Iran and the United States, citing a mutual commitment to diplomacy, according to Majed Al Ansari, Advisor to Qatar’s Prime Minister and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Al Ansari confirmed that a Qatari delegation had recently met with Iranian officials in Tehran for an extended discussion aimed at bridging the gap between the two nations.

Al Ansari characterized the ongoing mediation as a positive sign of both parties' willingness to engage. "Both sides have shown commitment to the diplomatic path through engaging with us and others in the region," he stated. He further indicated that Washington and Tehran are currently reviewing proposals facilitated by Qatar's mediation, with Doha actively exchanging ideas and suggestions between them. Despite not divulging specific details of the proposals or any identified challenges, Al Ansari expressed optimism, quoting, "If there were no hope, there would be no negotiations." He emphasized Qatar's neutral stance, prioritizing a peaceful resolution.

Addressing recent U.S. strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island, Al Ansari cautioned that further escalation could jeopardize regional security and impede diplomatic progress. "Any escalation that has taken place in the region represents a threat for the whole region," he warned. While he did not directly link the U.S. strike to the ongoing diplomatic efforts, he reiterated Qatar's focus on de-escalation and securing a diplomatic agreement.

Furthermore, Al Ansari reaffirmed Qatar's condemnation of the attack on the Al Mayeda LNG carrier, stressing the unacceptability of threats to maritime navigation in the Gulf. "We do not accept any threat to the freedom of navigation, whether against the Qatari carrier or any other carrier in the Gulf," he asserted, warning that such military escalations could complicate negotiations.

Al Ansari also highlighted Qatar's continuous coordination with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other regional partners, describing diplomatic engagement as ongoing. Qatar is actively mediating alongside Pakistan, with intensive, near-hourly exchanges of ideas among regional and international partners to achieve a positive outcome. Regarding Yemen, Al Ansari reiterated Qatar's support for the internationally recognized government and condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia.
