Alpha Dhabi Holding is actively exploring further opportunities within the hospitality sector as a strategic move to expand its international portfolio, according to a senior executive. The company, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi's International Holding Company (IHC), reported that its overseas portfolio companies generated Dh7.7 billion ($2.1 billion) in revenue during the first nine months of 2026, accounting for over 13 percent of its total revenue.
"Our investment approach will remain focused, complemented by disciplined international expansion," stated Derek Nicholson, Alpha Dhabi Holding's chief investment and strategy officer, in a recent interview. "Hospitality presents a significant avenue for our international growth. We seek opportunities that leverage our existing capabilities, rather than expanding for the sake of it."
Alpha Dhabi manages a diverse portfolio of over 250 public and private investments across 45 countries. Its hospitality interests include two key units: National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels, and ADMO Lifestyle. The latter recently expanded its presence in Egypt through the acquisition of the Nammos brand.
Mr. Nicholson described the Egypt venture as a "model where we are investors deploying the capital and we are the owners of the IP [intellectual property]." He highlighted this asset model as effective for international expansion and diversification, emphasizing a continued commitment to selectivity and long-term value generation.
In parallel, Alpha Dhabi's financial performance for the nine months ending September 30 showed a substantial increase in net profit attributable to owners, jumping nearly 41 percent year-on-year to Dh7.78 billion. Revenue for the period grew 6 percent to approximately Dh58.3 billion.
The company also recently announced a $1 billion commitment to investments in artificial intelligence companies globally, channeled through the Alpha Wave Global-managed fund Alpha Wave III. Mr. Nicholson characterized Alpha Wave III as a "long-term investment theme" that underscores the "quality" of companies sourced by New York-based Alpha Wave Global, which includes major AI players like OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as Elon Musk's SpaceX. This venture provides Alpha Dhabi with indirect exposure to these leading technology firms.
"When [Alpha Wave Global] approached us with Alpha Wave III, we decided that we wanted to continue our commitment to this sector," Mr. Nicholson explained. "We anticipate multi-trillion dollar investments over the next three to five years, and this is a theme where we believe there are still opportunities to identify best-in-class companies that are leaders in the sector."
Earlier in August, Alpha Dhabi, established in 2013, increased its shareholding and capital commitment in its private credit joint venture with the UAE's sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company.
