Fresh off his recent Ballon d'Or victory, Harry Kane has extended his contract with Bayern Munich, securing his future with the club until the summer of 2029. The prolific 33-year-old striker made the move to the German powerhouse from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, aiming to finally capture major silverware. Despite becoming Tottenham's all-time leading scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances, he left North London without a trophy. His initial season in Germany saw him miss out on team honors, though he did secure the European Golden Shoe for his 36 Bundesliga goals.
The fortunes changed in his second campaign, as Kane played a pivotal role in Bayern's 2025 Bundesliga title win, contributing 26 goals. His trophy haul now boasts two Bundesliga titles, one German Cup, and two German Super Cups, amassed through an impressive 156 goals in 161 games since his £86m transfer. Kane has consistently been the Bundesliga's top scorer each season he has been with the club, has been recognized as Germany's footballer of the year, and has won the Golden Shoe twice. Last season, his remarkable tally of 61 goals in 51 games was instrumental in Bayern achieving the domestic double and ultimately led him to beat Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001.
“I feel right at home at FC Bayern,” Kane stated following the announcement of his new deal, which reportedly positions him as Europe's highest-paid player by salary. “I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich. We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. It makes me very proud to be part of this club. My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay. I’m now looking forward to the future and I want to win many more titles with this great club.”
Kane departed Tottenham as their record scorer with 280 goals in 435 games. He has also achieved significant milestones with England, currently holding 91 goals in 125 caps and equaling Peter Shilton's record for most appearances for the Three Lions. His six goals at this summer's World Cup made him England's all-time tournament top-scorer with 14 goals in 18 games, helping the team to a third-place finish. While a return to England to challenge Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 280 goals (Kane currently has 213) was often speculated, his commitment to Bayern indicates this is no longer a priority.
Club president Herbert Hainer commented, “What began as a major transfer has, over time, become a special chapter in FC Bayern’s history. Harry Kane lives up to every promise football has to offer, and he has secured his place in the hearts of the fans as one of the greatest figures in the sport of our time … This is a special moment for FC Bayern today.” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund added, “We’re absolutely delighted, because with Harry Kane we have the Ballon d’Or winner on the pitch – a team player, a leader, the best all-round striker in the world. We all benefit from his qualities as a player and as a person, day in, day out. FC Bayern thrives on players who never stop giving their all, even when they have already achieved the greatest of goals.”
Meanwhile, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany is currently recovering at home after experiencing a collapse at the club's training ground, having been diagnosed with meningeal irritation. The team currently leads the Bundesliga on goal difference over Borussia Dortmund and remains undefeated in the Uefa Champions League with two wins and two draws. Kane has contributed 10 goals in 14 games across all competitions this season.
