The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a new initiative to provide complimentary oral and dental health screenings for kindergarten students across public schools. This significant program was officially announced on Friday by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Emirates Health Services. The Ministry of Health emphasized that the UAE's healthcare strategy prioritizes prevention and early detection.
Dr. Hussain Al Rand, assistant undersecretary for the public health sector at the ministry, stated, "The project reflects a national vision that invests in prevention as the most effective foundation for building a healthier society for the long term." He further elaborated, "Promoting oral and dental health from the preschool years helps establish healthy habits that can stay with children throughout their lives." Dr. Al Rand also highlighted the crucial role of families in reinforcing these habits, monitoring children's health, and encouraging daily healthy practices, working in tandem with the health and education sectors.
This program is expected to contribute to raising healthier generations, enhancing the overall quality of life, and improving national health indicators in alignment with international best practices. Parents will have the option to take their children for these screenings at government health centers managed by Emirates Health Services (EHS) or at private healthcare facilities. The screenings will specifically target the early identification of dental caries, gum disease, and other conditions that could potentially impact a child's health, development, and their capacity to learn.
