Authorities in the United Arab Emirates and Iraq have successfully dismantled a multinational drug smuggling operation, intercepting a significant narcotics shipment in Ras Al Khaimah. The operation led to the arrest of 20 suspects and prevented the entry of 200,000 Captagon tablets, along with over 30 kilograms of other narcotics, into the country.

This joint effort was spearheaded by the National Anti-Narcotics Agency, in collaboration with the Ras Al Khaimah Police, Iraq's General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, and the Federal Public Prosecution authorities. The apprehended suspects, identified as being of Arab, African, and Asian nationalities, are accused of planning to introduce the illicit substances into the UAE via a border area in Ras Al Khaimah for subsequent distribution within the country.

The confiscated haul included a variety of drugs such as cocaine, crystal meth, marijuana, and hashish, in addition to the synthetic narcotic known as Spice. The successful operation stemmed from intelligence shared between UAE and Iraqi authorities, which exposed the network's intentions to smuggle large quantities of drugs.

According to a statement from Iraq, investigators meticulously gathered, analyzed, and exchanged intelligence with their UAE counterparts. This coordinated approach allowed security teams to devise and execute an operation that resulted in the interception of the shipment and the initial arrests. The remaining suspects were apprehended in subsequent raids.

Iraqi authorities highlighted that combating drug trafficking necessitates international partnerships, emphasizing that domestic efforts alone are insufficient. They underscored the critical role of intelligence sharing and inter-agency coordination in tracking criminal networks, disrupting their schemes, and dismantling smuggling routes.

UAE authorities affirmed that this operation has dealt a blow to international drug trafficking networks and underscored the vital importance of cooperation among regional security agencies.
