The Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Hassan Abdallah, announced a significant milestone for the nation's economy: foreign currency reserves have surged to an unprecedented US$ 57.50 billion as of the end of October. This achievement is further underscored by the banking sector’s net foreign assets reaching their highest point since 2011, a development that coincides with a notable decline in inflation rates. Governor Abdallah shared these positive indicators during his participation in the 49th annual conference of the Arab Union of Financial Markets Traders, asserting that the Egyptian economy has demonstrated resilience and achieved positive outcomes despite facing considerable global challenges.
Abdallah elaborated on the CBE's ongoing commitment to maintaining financial stability and bolstering the resilience of the banking sector. This strategic approach is built on transparency and a monetary policy framework designed to reduce inflation, complemented by a flexible exchange rate regime that is responsive to market mechanisms. He emphasized that this strategy is crucial for enhancing the economy's ability to absorb external shocks and navigate market volatility, while also building upon the progress made through the reforms initiated in 2024.
Regarding technological advancements, the CBE Governor stressed the importance of a balanced approach, integrating technological innovation with investments in human capital to secure the future of the banking sector. He highlighted the CBE's successful implementation of artificial intelligence through its “Data Science Center” to improve operational efficiency and refine economic analysis. Furthermore, Governor Abdallah advocated for the establishment of robust risk management frameworks, the strengthening of sound governance practices, and the enhancement of cybersecurity systems to effectively mitigate potential risks to the financial system's stability and market integrity.
