Officials at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have made the decision to dismiss Hossam Hassan from his role as the head coach of the Egyptian national team. Sources indicate that EFA officials have resolved to part ways with both Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan following a series of recent controversies.
The EFA has determined that the upcoming matches against Malawi, which are part of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, will mark the final games for the current coaching staff. Tarek Soliman is slated to take over coaching duties for the matches against Malawi, as Hossam Hassan is currently serving a three-match suspension.
According to a source, the most probable successor for the head coach position will be an Egyptian national, with several candidates reportedly under consideration, notably Hossam al-Badry and Ali Maher. The official announcement of this decision is anticipated following consultations with the EFA’s Technical Director, Shawky Gharib.
The final decision regarding the coaching staff's future will be made after the formal announcement of their dismissal and the conclusion of the two matches against Malawi. This is particularly relevant as some voices are advocating for the appointment of a foreign head coach.
Suggestions were made to postpone the announcement until after the international break in November to avoid impacting the national team's performance in the upcoming matches against Malawi. The Egyptian national team is scheduled to enter a closed training camp in November to prepare for their two encounters with Malawi, which constitute the third and fourth rounds of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The first match is scheduled to be held at Cairo International Stadium on November 13 at 9 PM, with the return leg taking place on November 17 at Bingu National Stadium, kicking off at 3 PM (Malawi time).
