Carlos Alcaraz has secured his first Paris Masters title, defeating Ben Shelton in straight sets at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre. This victory marks a significant moment for the seven-time Grand Slam champion, as he avenged his earlier season loss to Shelton in the US Open quarterfinals. The final score was 7-6 (7/5), 7-5, concluding a match that lasted just under two hours, a stark contrast to their previous five-set encounter.

Alcaraz, 23, celebrated his ninth career 1000-level title, expressing his perseverance at the Paris Masters. "Coming here every year, not finding my best tennis but we never gave up," Alcaraz stated after receiving the trophy from former champion Boris Becker. "We had really painful losses here and we always said try again," he added with a smile.

With the ATP Finals in Turin approaching from November 15-22, world number three Alcaraz now boasts five tour-level titles this year, trailing only Jannik Sinner, who has six. Alcaraz enters the ATP Finals on a nine-match winning streak, having also won the 500-level title in Vienna. He will be aiming for his first victory at the season-ending tournament.

This win in Paris adds to Alcaraz's impressive record in the city, remaining undefeated in title matches after previously winning two French Opens and now the Paris Masters. Notably, Alcaraz has a history of saving match points en route to titles in the French capital, a feat he repeated in the quarterfinals against Taylor Fritz, reminiscent of his epic Roland Garros final win against Jannik Sinner last year.

For world number four Ben Shelton, this was his first defeat in a Masters final. He had previously won his two prior appearances in finals at this level, both at the Canadian Open in the last two editions.
