What does it take to build a Harry Potter land that surpasses every other theme park in the world? For Warner Bros World Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the answer lies in meticulous detail, creative ambition, and strict quality control. Although the massive expansion of Warner Bros World is still under construction, filings suggest it will rival any similar land globally. Site preparation began last summer, nearly three years after the initial announcement, as the developers take time to ensure everything is executed correctly.

While Warner Bros produced all eight films about the boy wizard and the three Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, its theme parks have historically lacked lands based on the franchise. This is because Warner Bros licensed the theme park rights to Universal in 2007. Universal has since built Wizarding World of Harry Potter areas in nearly all of its seven parks, renowned for their fastidious attention to detail. The first of these opened in 2010 at Universal's Islands of Adventure park in Orlando, featuring a movie-accurate recreation of Hogsmeade complete with sloping roofs, artificial snow, and bespoke merchandise.

Universal's parks also feature iconic locations like Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, utilizing movie-making tricks like forced perspective and innovative rides attached to robotic arms. Licensing agreements have traditionally required Universal to maintain a first-class standard, restricting non-Harry Potter brands and logos within the themed areas to preserve immersion.

However, Warner Bros World has a distinct advantage that Universal cannot match. Being entirely indoors, the park shields visitors from Abu Dhabi's seasonal heat while allowing for more intricate scenery that is protected from wind, overgrowth, and sun damage. Rumours suggest this upcoming expansion may become the first to feature both Hogwarts and Diagon Alley under one roof. With recruitment and design efforts underway by Miral, the new Harry Potter expansion aims to deliver exceptional quality when it eventually opens its doors.
