Tanzid Hasan Tamim etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score a Test century in Australia, leading his side to a dominant position of 351-6 at stumps on the second day in Darwin.

Powered by a magnificent 101 from opener Tanzid and a vibrant 84 by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on Friday, Bangladesh established a commanding 153-run lead with four wickets remaining. Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 32 at the close of play, alongside Hasan Mahmud on 13, following an important 40-run partnership.

Reflecting on the day, Australian opener Jake Weatherald acknowledged the opposition's performance, stating, "They batted really well obviously. We missed a few chances but all credit to them."

Playing in just his second Test match, the 25-year-old Tanzid delivered a controlled innings in the Northern Territory capital as Bangladesh pursue their first-ever Test victory in Australia. Despite a reprieve on 62 when Steve Smith dropped a sharp chance at first slip off Nathan Lyon, Tanzid capitalized on the opportunity. He reached his milestone in 188 balls, striking eight boundaries and a massive six before eventually falling to Mitchell Starc at deep mid-off off the bowling of Lyon.

Resuming the day at 96-1 after dismissing Australia for 198 on the opening day, Tanzid and Mominul Haque batted with great discipline. Mominul narrowly missed his half-century, falling for 49 after nicking a delivery from Josh Hazlewood to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, concluding a vital 102-run partnership.

Captain Najmul then injected momentum into the innings, supported later by Mushfiqur Rahim. However, the introduction of the second new ball swung the momentum back toward Australia as Najmul, Mushfiqur (36), and Litton Das (0) all fell in quick succession to catches by Smith at second slip, tying Smith with Joe Root for the most catches by a fielder in Test history.

Despite the late flurry of wickets, Mehidy and Hasan successfully navigated through to stumps, extending the visitors' lead past the 150-run mark.
