Turkish club Trabzonspor are reportedly eyeing a move to bring Darwin Nunez in to play alongside their recent high-profile signing, Mohamed Salah. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed to Turkish television that the Uruguayan striker is a player of interest, describing him as a very good player during an appearance on TRT Spor.
Dogan revealed that discussions are currently underway with Al Hilal, the Saudi Arabian club holding Nunez's contract, though he noted that no agreement has been reached yet. Nunez transferred to Al Hilal last season for a reported fee of around €54 million, making 24 appearances across various competitions, scoring nine goals, and providing five assists. However, regular playing time was hard to come by under Simone Inzaghi, and opportunities dwindled further following the winter arrival of Karim Benzema at the Riyadh giants. The 27-year-old remains under contract with Al Hilal until 2028.
While Trabzonspor have proposed a loan arrangement that includes an option for a permanent transfer, Al Hilal are said to prefer a straight sale to maximize their financial recovery. Nunez previously shared the pitch with Salah for three seasons at Liverpool before making his move to Saudi Arabia, with the duo helping secure the 2024/25 Premier League title.
Trabzonspor secured Salah's signature last month after the Egyptian forward concluded his nine-year tenure at Anfield. As Trabzonspor prepare to challenge the traditional Istanbul dominance in the Super Lig following a third-place finish last term, Salah is anticipated to make his debut on Saturday against Kasimpasa.
