A leading UAE school bus operator has pledged that parents will not bear the burden of rising fuel costs in the new academic year. Emirates Transport, which manages transport for about 285,000 public and private sector pupils across 11,000 buses, successfully absorbed the financial impact by optimizing routes and leveraging advanced technology.
Recent global oil market disruptions tied to a prolonged Iran war drove up fuel prices, leading to increased costs at the pump for motorists. However, the government-owned transport provider confirmed that customer pricing would remain unaffected.
“The fuel increase was a lesson for us,” said Tariq Al Awadhi, commercial lead for school transport at Emirates Transport. “We needed to learn how to utilise our buses 100 per cent with fuel efficiency and to implement the services that we really need to implement, with 100 per cent route optimisation.”
Transportation fees vary between schools and emirates, generally ranging from approximately Dh3,000 to Dh10,000 annually. In Dubai, private school transport fees are determined by individual schools and providers, while Abu Dhabi fees are overseen by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek). Mr Al Awadhi emphasized that fixed pricing structures protect parents from fluctuating fuel rates.
As the 2026-2027 academic year gets underway, operations teams continuously monitor live fleets from the central operations room. The comprehensive oversight system ensures safe student transit even in remote locations, including Dalma Island and Zirku Island.
Safety remains a top priority, with the operator deploying new Internet-of-Things devices for round-the-clock fleet monitoring. In accordance with Cabinet Resolution No 56 of 2020, rigorous safety measures such as cameras, motion sensors, and multi-layered checks are strictly enforced to prevent any student from being left behind on a bus. Driven by enhanced safety confidence and dependable service, Emirates Transport has experienced unexpected growth in student registrations and new school partnerships for the upcoming term.
