Security authorities in Egypt have successfully identified and arrested a man caught on a widely circulated social media video harassing a young woman on public transportation in Cairo.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday by the Interior Ministry, police in the Al-Marg district received a report on August 22 from a female student living in the area. The victim stated she was subjected to harassment by a man while they were both passengers in a microbus.
The ministry noted that the victim immediately called out to fellow passengers for assistance, which caused the accused to flee the vehicle and escape the scene.
Following a thorough investigation, security forces tracked down and apprehended the perpetrator. The suspect, an employee of a company residing within the Al-Marg police station's jurisdiction, was taken into custody. During interrogation, he confessed to the offense, admitting that he ran away out of fear that locals would attack him after the woman shouted for help. Authorities have initiated all necessary legal procedures regarding the incident.
