Torrential floods in the Himalayan border areas of Nepal and Tibet have left hundreds missing after destroying roads, bridges, and power projects. Reuters reported that at least nine people have been killed, with authorities bracing for further casualties and extensive damage. The Nepal Tourism Board stated that 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals, are currently unaccounted for.

Houses and roads were swept away in Nepal, while officials in China's Tibet reported fears of major casualties as a mudslide struck a land crossing in Gyirong county. Rescue helicopters were unable to land in the affected areas of Syapru Besi and Timure in the mountainous district of Rasuwa due to dangerously high river levels. District administrator Narendra Pariyar urged residents along the Bhote Koshi river to relocate to higher ground, warning of significant losses.

Health worker Tula Bahadur BK described widespread devastation in Rasuwa, noting that entire riverside settlements were swept away. Army spokesperson Raja Ram Basnet confirmed that rescue aircraft remain grounded until water levels recede. China's official Xinhua news agency reported that the mudslide severed road, communication, and power links in the Shigatse region near the border.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for comprehensive search operations and enhanced early warning systems to prevent secondary disasters. Nepal's energy ministry noted that 430MW of electricity supplies, primarily from hydroelectric projects, have been disrupted. Prime Minister Balendra Shah announced that police and military personnel are actively engaged in rescue efforts, urging residents in lower areas to move to safer locations.
