British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, a far-right provocateur known for feuding with other right-wing content creators, has been deported to the United Kingdom, according to United States authorities.
On Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed Yiannopoulos’s removal following his arrest a day earlier. In announcing the arrest, the department stated on social media that he chose to overstay his welcome in violation of national laws.
According to the Department of Homeland Security statement, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended Yiannopoulos on Thursday while he was travelling through the Louis Armstrong New Orleans international airport in Louisiana. He had originally entered the country through New York City in May 2019. After missing an immigration hearing earlier this year, a judge issued a final removal order on July 22.
During Friday's announcement of the detention, the Department of Homeland Security encouraged noncitizens who overstayed their visas to self-deport. The department stated that individuals should take advantage of the offer to reserve the chance to return legally, warning that those who do not will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.
Yiannopoulos has not publicly commented on his deportation, and his usually active social media account on X has remained silent since his detention. He was previously an outspoken supporter of US President Donald Trump and the mass deportation campaign pledged by the Republican leader for his second term.
In a social media post last year, Yiannopoulos wrote, "Zero immigration for the next 20 years. No ifs, no buts." Known for his attacks on feminism, immigrants, and Muslims, Yiannopoulos was believed to be in New Orleans as part of his work with musician Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, Islamophobe, and Trump ally, celebrated Yiannopoulos’s removal after previously calling for his deportation. Loomer and Yiannopoulos had been feuding for years.
In a social media post on Friday, Loomer stated that Milo is returning to the UK to live among Muslims he has recently chosen to embrace, adding that it was a great day for America. Loomer also called for the deportation of leftist streamer Hasan Piker, though Piker is a US citizen.
